Dump the 1969 sham vote
by fwp Saturday June 09, 2007 at 03:13 PM

UN envoy visits occupied West Papua

Hundreds of people have rallied in West Papua, calling
on the United Nations to pressure Jakarta into
overturning a 1969 referendum that joined the
territory to Indonesia.

The demonstrators, rallying during a visit by UN envoy
Hina Jilani, claim the referendum was a sham.

Rally organiser, Jek Wanggai, says the UN must accept
the Papuan people's aspiration to review the Act of
Free Choice, as the referendum was known.

"The United Nations must register Papuan areas as
colonised zones and organise an immediate referendum
vote," he said.

Papuans have long accused Indonesia's military of
violating human rights in the province and complain
that the bulk of earnings from its rich natural
resources flow to Jakarta.

UNSCUM
by Scumbag Watcher Sunday June 10, 2007 at 05:27 PM

Hrmphhh. UN? That's a laugh. Seems the deputy sherrif rodent got to the Canadian government overnight, they will now be joining the push with Russia, USA, &etc to scuttle the UN Convention on Indigenous Rights. Take out: even less chance for West Papuans getting a fair go.

Some one should smack me for mentioning the super sham UN and a fair go in the same para. The UN? What a laugh. Scumbags all. Never ever done any good - but then it's not meant to, is it?

Thanks for the report though.
