a proposed NT site was always going to grow into a dumping ground for the world's unwanted high level nuclear wastes. The only people claiming otherwise are the same lying politicians who promised we'd never get the dump in the first place.

Back in 1997, the federal government tried to impose a low level radioactive waste dump on a vulnerable, impoverished, disempowered remote aboriginal community in south australia. When the kungkas fought back, environmentalists quickly joined their cause. They pointed out that, if the feds were able to establish the low level dump, they'd effortlessly co-locate a much more worrying load – long-lived nuclear wastes from the lucas heights reactor program.
Now, the federal government is going all out to impose that nuclear waste on a vulnerable, impoverished, disempowered remote aboriginal community in our Territory. Despite enthusiastic support from the NLC, some traditional owners remain staunch in their opposition to this drive. Last weekend's liberal party national conference revealed that this government hopes to effortlessly transform the NT dump into a site for international nuclear waste.
Just as the SA low level facility was always going to turn into a long-lived nuclear dump, the proposed NT site was always going to grow into a dumping ground for the world's unwanted high level nuclear wastes. The only people claiming otherwise are the same lying politicians who promised we'd never get the dump in the first place.

Coalition accused of having 'secret agenda' for nuke dump
The Labor Member for Lingiari has warned the Northern Territory could receive high level nuclear waste from around the world if the Federal Government is re-elected.
The Liberal Party National Conference passed a motion on the weekend urging the Commonwealth to consider setting up an international waste dump in Australia.
Warren Snowdon says the recent announcement of Muckaty Station near Tennant Creek as a likely low and intermediate level dump, sets the Territory up to receive higher level nuclear material from overseas.
"It's very clear that there's a secret agenda that which has been at the back of the mind of the Liberal Party for some time," he said.
"I've got no doubt in my mind at all that this is just another example of the mean and tricky nature and dishonest nature of the way in which John Howard and the Liberal Party are dealing with people of the Northern Territory."
