ahead of the apec meeting in sydney, this week there was a ministerial in darwin.

energy ministers and their advisors from australia, usa and the asia pacific region came to darwin to discuss energy security.
federal resources minister ian macfarlane described his vision for a future energy mix dominated by coal and punctuated by uranium.

Protesters from greenpeace erected a large inflatable cooling tower directly outside the fenced of zone surrounding Darwin's parliament house.
Local activists welcomed the visiting decision makers at the guarded entrances each day, urging them to consider clean, renewable energy technologies and reject the nuclear non-option.

flying the flag for clean energy: wind power demonstration

Greenpeace released their new report 'Energy [r]evolution' which described global future energy scenarios that would achieve deep cuts to global carbon emissions without the unacceptable risks of nuclear.

On the night of the conference dinner, the East Point coastal reserve was closed to the public, and a 1km square exclusion zone was established around the water surrounding the exclusive restaurant location. This was not enough to dissuade one lone brave advocate of clean energy, who repeatedly sailed his small skiff into the well guarded zone policed by officers on jetskis and speedboats.

for the umpteenth time, police on jetskis chase a lone protestor out of the exclusion zone, before a motor boat eventually dragged the skiff to shore.
