“We are here locking the parliamentarians out of office as the collation and the Australian Labour Party (ALP) locks us into a radioactive future.” Said spokes person for the Australian Student Environment Network (ASEN) Claire McCall

Over 30 activists blocked two enterences. Staff were delayed in getting to work.

“The ALP is obviously suffering from an ethical leak with its U-turn on uranium mining positioning Aust to be the world’s leading supplier of nuclear materials and climate chaos.” Said Claire McCall.

“If we are going to be fair dinkum on climate change, we need a fair dinkum energy revolution”

“Climate change must be dealt with by real changes to our economy and society, not by substituting one environmental disaster for another.” Concluded Claire McCall.

Boycott the Election

Boycott the Election...
368405.jpg3xa6dr.jpg, image/jpeg, 400x298

All the parties go on about the environment but Nobody is actually protecting it. Global Warming is a proven fact just look around you. We must reduce our consumption of oil and gas and so what does the government do? It wants to build Nuclear power stations across Australia. to PRETEND that nuclear energy and the uranium fuel cycle is:

- safe
- financially affordable
- insurable
and not contributing to:
- greenhouse emssions
- massive water use
- nuclear wastes
- nuclear weapons,

it would merely attempt to address just 36% of global greenhouse gas emissions, ignoring the 64%* of GHG from industry, agriculture, transport and deforestation.

Please, don't be fooled into fighting this issue on the basis of energy use and climate, for we know all the reasons why Nuclear power is, in reality, a moot point.

We CAN, however, re-frame the issue (as our Labor & Liberal parties are want to do) by focussing on the mining and military sectors which actually drive the nuclear industry.

"Safeguards" for uranium exports do NOT guarantee inspections, do NOT apply to military facilities and provide for diversion of uranium reserves from civil to military use. ('The Australian', 2/12/05, "China warning on uranium", paragraph 10).

This fact alone, if Rudd and Howard would comprehend it, is reason enough to end the nuclear cycle initiated here in Australia.

Demand nothing less.

“Radical change cannot be negotiated by governments; it can only be enforced by people.”
- Arundhati Roy in The Nation, 9 February 2004.

"If the people will lead, the leaders will follow."

- David Suzuki.

When will the first explosion be?

We all know it may happen yet we feel powerless to do anything about it.

But there is something you can do.

By voting Nobody next Federal Election, effectively Boycotting the election, you're sending a clear message to those who hold power. You're saying that you've had enough of politicians who are part of a self serving elite whose aim it is to make the rich richer and to deprive the majority of people with a decent way of life.

By voting Nobody you're say that you don't need careerist and corrupt politicians riding the gravy train at your expense. That you and I and thousands of others can stand up for ourselves.

That we can create a better life for all, where we enjoy genuine freedom from nuclear power, poverty, violence and war.

Don't waste your vote next Federal Election vote Nobody!

Join one third of the Australian population who reject the Australian parliament. And start to organise for a better tomorrow!

The real votes [repeat]
by martin Monday April 30, 2007 at 01:46 PM

The power is derived from compulsory GST on a daily basis. Try avoiding to pay that - that's a decided vote!!!
Throw in corporation laws to be re-cast - then you'll have something, hey !

solution is testing
by double standards Monday April 30, 2007 at 02:32 PM

The solution is declare war on a criminal government for contravening numerous international laws and conventions. Impose regime change then hang its leader and his cronies for the murder of 700,000 innocent civilians and the plunder of valuable resources. Which nation???

If caught justify your actions in the same way the coalition 'justifies' theirs -- with double standards, hypocrisy and denial!!! Got a problem with that???

What's good for the goose is ....

THAT IS THE REALITY THAT THE PEOPLE OF THE 'FREE' WORLD TOLERATE TODAY ... who do 'YOU' think will be next?? I wonder!

Coal subsidies far outweigh funding for renewables
by Parrot Press Monday April 30, 2007 at 04:07 PM

Greenpeace has accused the Federal Government of spending billions of dollars on the coal industry and failing to subsidise cleaner energy sources.

A new report reveals there is a disparity in funding from Government subsidies.

The study commissioned by Greenpeace found in an average year, the Government subsidises coal, oil and gas companies to the tune of about $9 billion.

But renewable industries like solar and wind received $330 million.

Report author Chris Reidy says he is surprised by the disparity.

"There's just very little support going to renewable energy," he said.

Ric Brazzale, from the Business Council for Sustainable Energy, says it is an unfair playing field.

"[It] disadvantages renewable power generators," he said.

Greenpeace says the Federal Government is not doing enough to combat climate change.

Action?
by JD Wednesday May 02, 2007 at 09:38 AM

And what is Greenpeace doing on uranium mining - the issue here? The word barely rates a mention on their website, if at all.
(no, I'm not condoning Patrick Moore - rightfully 'disowned' by GP International).
