PRISON AUTHORITIES RAISE RELIGIOUS FEAR

NSW Justice Minister Hatzistergos is trying to frighten us with the threat of domestic terrorism to justify spending almost $1 billion a year and still having the highest recidivist rate in the country² said Mr Collins.

In the latest attack on human rights, prisoners who change their religion to Islam will risk loss of contact with family, letters or to receive financial support.
³If these prisoners were to have become Christians they would be seen as on the road to release. The racism and xenophobia demonstrated by the Iemma Government in its media statements is calculated to trigger concern in the public¹s mind² said Mr Collins.

"In reality the HRMU prisoners are monitored 24/7, and are held under conditions that breach the UN Standard Minimum Guidelines for prisoners in having no natural air or sufficient light. Anything that allows them to retain their sanity is excellent, and the Iemma Government has no right to control their thoughts or preferred religion" said Mr Collins.
