Canberra: KIDNAPPED, TORTURED, GAGGED.

National Day of Protest for David Hicks

Canberra Saturday 21st April, 10 am.

Meet between Commonwealth Avenue Bridge and Regatta point and march to Parliament House at 11 am.

David Hicks may have been gagged but we have not. He may have been tortured into 'confession' but we remember the abuse of process which preceded his plea. He may have been kidnapped but we are not going to be incarcerated by the Howard spin doctors.

David Hicks is not the only victim of the 'War on Terror'.

This war has fundamentally compromised our basic rights and liberties. We no longer live in a 'democracy' free from arbitrary detention. We no longer insist that prisoners should not be tortured. We are willing to see our fellow citizens kidnapped. The truth is that the 'law' David broke was only created years after he was locked up. He cannot be tried in Australia because he has not broken any Australian law. How far will they go - and what will not be justified in - the name of 'National Security'?

The Howard Government has done a deal for the election year. They are trying to cover up 5 years of shameful inaction over the abuse of an Australian citizen. Don't let Howard off the hook. Join us as we tell the government that WE ARE STILL NOT HAPPY JOHN.

No gag orders. No secret deals. Close Guantanamo Bay. Free David now!

Organised by the Concerned Canberra Citizens Political Organisation.

Free all Guantanamo prisoners
by d. Thursday April 19, 2007 at 10:23 PM

I'm very disappointed with the "Free David Hicks" campaigners. We did an excellent job in bringing David Hicks' plight to mainstream attention, but instead of now having an irrelevant rally, which has a main call to Free David Now! is a waste of time and will discredit the campaign.

The rally's main cry should be "Free All Guantanamo Prisoners" first and foremost, not as an afterthought. The campaign needs to move on from David Hicks, or else it will fade into obscurity.

> The campaign needs to move on from David Hicks,

Yes, it should include Mamdouh Habib(pay him some compensation!) and Jack Thomas to begin with, as well as all the Muslims and Arab victims of 9/11, the biggest lie of all.

I don't understand why people in Australia are so ignorant and 'forgiving' about this crime when Frank Lowy(Westfield Shopping Centre big boss) made a lot of money from his 99 year lease of retail section of WTC over 10 dead Aussies on the day.

Also we shouldn't forget about Martin Bryant,
Another victim of an authorities' inside job.

Judge says Thomas' lawyers 'running in circles'
by Parrort Press Friday April 20, 2007 at 05:44 PM

A Supreme Court judge has accused the lawyers acting for Victorian political scapegoat, Jack Thomas, of playing games.

Jack Thomas faces political scapegoat terrorism-related charges for John Howard's alleged 'war on terror' and was due to be tried this month, but his legal team has withdrawn due to a conflict of interest.

His instructing solicitor, Rob Stary, is expected to give evidence about how the media obtained certain material, which was used in media interviews that form the basis of the prosecution case.

The defence asked for a month's adjournment today to allow the new legal team to prepare for the case.

However, Justice Bill Gillard said the trial was ready to proceed, but defence lawyers were running in circles.

Justice Gillard said he wanted to know this afternoon which barrister would be representing Mr Thomas.

Terry Hicks seeks legal advice to get around gag order
by Parrort Press Saturday April 21, 2007 at 11:40 AM

The father of convicted political scapegoat David Hicks says he is seeking legal advice as to what effect his son's gag order has on him speaking out publicly.

As part of his forced guilty plea the South Australian was ordered not to talk to the media for 12 months.

But his father Terry Hicks has indicated that he is looking at whether he is allowed to tell his story for him.

"What's happened is that [US Defence lawyer] Major [Michael] Mori's put out a media or press release that David's decided he will abide by the gag, which doesn't mean that I can't talk," he said.

David Hicks, originally from Adelaide, was held at Guantanamo Bay for nearly six years without charge.

David was captured in Afghanistan in 2002 where he was sold as a slave to US-led forces who invaded after the US false flag operations by the United States on September 11, 2001.

He was forced to plead guilty to a charge of providing material support for terrorism and was sentenced to nine months' jail.
