Leo Docherty, who formerly served with British contingent in Iraq and Afghanistan, described war in these countries as political and military slaughter.

Docherty noted that war in Afghanistan has been a major element in the emergence of hardline movements and a general sense of discontent among the locals.

He further said that British troops based in Afghanistan are sacrificing their lives for what can be described as a "doomed project".

Former British serviceman opined that most of what British troops do in Afghanistan is not constructive at all and it only works to further alienate Afghan population.

Commenting on the war in Iraq, Docherty emphasized that when U.S. army launched its campaign against former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in March 2003 none of the commanders in Britain or U.S. believed that Iraq had secretly made and stored nuclear weapons.

Docherty was fired from the army about six months ago for breaking army's code of silence through attacking the U.S.-led war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

New hit song from The Meat Beetles
by Wrongo Starr Monday April 09, 2007 at 08:41 PM

Here is the new hit song by The Meat Beetles, the sensational musical group from Hopeulikit, Georgia, the undisputed cultural center of the USA!

http://www.indymedia.org.uk/media/2007/04//367530.mp3

The song is called "The Decider Gets to DecideThe Decidings That Get Decisioned". It features lead vocals by George "The Butcher of Crawford" Bush, with backing vocals by Hilary "The New York Quisling" Clinton. The Meat Beeetles have no interest in fame or fortune. They have no desire to make any money off of their art. They invite you to download this song, burn it, and share it with friends. They even encourage you to make a few CD copies of this song and leave it where randon passers-by will find it (e.g. park benches, phone booths, public transportation, the shelves of your local supermarket). Ater all, what's the point of enduring the Bush dictatorship if we can't laugh at the bastards once in a while? By the way, The Meat Beetles did not use any musical instruments or microphones in creating this groovy hit song.

Afghanistan: Why Australia should get out
by Tony Iltis Monday April 09, 2007 at 08:59 PM

Howard’s recent proposal to double the number of Australian troops in Afghanistan has been applauded by Rudd and the ALP. The notion that more occupying troops will bring stability to Afghanistan must be opposed. Immediate withdrawal of all foreign troops would be a genuine step towards stability. However, given the almost total destruction of homes, schools, hospitals, industry and other infrastructure since 1992, payment of large scale reparations is also necessary.

Afghanistan troop boost necessary, Rudd says
by Parrot Press Tuesday April 10, 2007 at 08:31 PM

Federal Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd has given in-principle support to the Government's plan to increase Australian troop numbers in Afghanistan.

No opposition to war in this country? I wonder if he lived in Afghanistan would he find it necessary to kill people? Considering they're sending SAS killers.

Afghan Independent Media Consultant Sought
by Steve Peacock Tuesday April 10, 2007 at 09:18 PM

Impeding the development of open media, for instance, are a list of restrictions that the Afghan National Security Directorate imposed upon journalists last year. Human Rights Watch decried the restrictive list as a "blatant intrusion on the freedom of Afghanistan’s fledgling media. These directives are an insult to the hard work and personal sacrifice of Afghan journalists who try to get the truth out to the public."

Index on Afghanistan: March 2007
by Sarah Meyer Tuesday April 10, 2007 at 10:01 PM

Index on Afghanistan...
kandahar.jpg, image/jpeg, 320x239

Civilian murders define this month’s obscenities in Afghanistan but – as in Iraq - the war-mongers insist that ‘progress’ is being made. The Americans do not care about civilians dying either in Iraq or in Afghanistan. From the US perspective, perhaps every civilian killed is a future ‘terrorist.’

Canadian torture and losing prisoners in Afghanistan was under the spotlight this month. A further obscenity was the announcement of NATO racist policies in Kandahar Airbase toilets . Not surprising that Afghans, like Iraqis, don’t want occupation forces in their country?

War on terror backfires: stink tank

The US-led war on terror is only fuelling more violence by focusing on military solutions rather than on root causes, a British stink tank has warned.

"The war on terror is failing and actually increasing the likelihood of more terrorist attacks," the Oxford Research Group said in its study Beyond Terror: The Truth About The Real Threats To Our World.

Repairs leave Afghanistan troops without helicopters

Australian militants in Afghanistan will be without their own helicopter support for the rest of the year after two Chinook helicopters were called back to Townsville for repairs.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200704/s1894216.htm

=======================

Now we're supposed to feel sorry for them? Well killing people without a gun might be a little bit more difficult? So unless your average Afghani has a chopper I don't think we should be too concerned.

By the way who's counting the dead?

I know, Karen Middleton SBS News? When she gets out of bed?

US militant deleted media images to protect inquiry: NATO?

A US militant who erased journalists' images after US militants fired into a crowd of Afghan civilians was trying to protect the site for future inquiries, a NATO investigation has concluded.

There's that monster again!

THE MONSTER

The MONSTER destroys itself, so why do we fight the MONSTER? Why not just build our own world? Think of cost benefit of our time, money and our investment in building a new world - opposed to trying to stop the MONSTER who is always right. I know! We might save some lives! Nah! The monster said… that those people had to die and they'll have to lock people up if they disagree. So we say… well lock us up then. And they do! Then they go off and continue to do the killing while people are locked up. Because that was the right thing to do - because they were just terrorists and you were just a wild animal that doesn't understand capitalism and the way the system works. I know! We'll stop the war in Iraq? But Afghanistan is okay so well just keep on building democracy over there?
