Palm Island council lawyer Andrew Boe announced today that S/Sgt Hurley will be charged with manslaughter over the death of Aboriginal man Mulrunji in 2004
Mr Boe told everyone to be very careful about what they say now. In particular, anyone who has been angered by this case must respect S/Sgt Hurley's legal right to be presumed innocent.
If people don't respect this right, the trial could be stopped because of prejudice - and there will be no chance for Mulrunji's death to be balanced.

Er... no one was charged with that little turd's death, imbecile, so your comment is irrelevant.
As are you.
Now, as I was about to say. I agree that Aussie justice can be seen to be a series of kangaroo courts. The person in the dock doesn't have to give their account of what happened. So this cop can just sit there and say nothing. But all the witnesses against him can be made to look like fools (I know, I know, it's pretty challenging for a skilled lawyer to make an Indigini look foolish) through the cross examination process.
Courts are a search for proof. A ceremonial clash of admissible evidence. Not a search for the truth. Often, juries are told to leave the court room during legal argument for fear of them actually hearing the truth that the defence don't want them to. It's a joke.
Don't be surprised if they pull that stunt during this cop's trial.
But remember; it ain't his fault. It's the sysem's fault that lets them do it.
Court trials should ask the question, "What happened?" Instead, they ask, 'Show us the admissible proof.'
I hope he gets off anyway. I'm sure the women who are always being beaten up by their drunken shit-for-brains husbands and boyfreinds hope so too. Afterall, it's Hurley who THEY call when the shit hits the fan at 3 in the morning. Not some lawyer in a suit as he sleeps snugly in bed.
Charming!

Charming little argument for EXTRA-JUDICIAL MURDER of people who may, or may not, have commited some minor crime. And here was I thinking all cops were semi-literate and inarticulate! They must be sending them to Uni these days.

I'll have nothing to say until after the trial. I'm not going to be the one responsible for getting the trial thrown out.

Now THAT'S the smartest thing I've read here about this issue.
Which kinda tells a story in itself, sadly.
But don't worry, Dave. Hardly anyone else reads this crap so I don't think there's much danger of subjudice raising its ugly head.
MIM is a bit like the guy who luxuriates in his own fart under the covers on a Saturday morning. No one else knows. No one else cares. But he thinks it's all so good.
