Sheik's comments spur calls to Immigration Dept?
by Parrot Press Friday January 12, 2007 at 05:41 PM

Now it's alleged that the Sheik Taj el-Din Al Hilali comments spurred calls to the Immigration Department? What was the point of the pr exercise if people weren't going to call her? Why does she distance herself from her government and political media establishment's xenophobic pr campaigns?

Sheik's comments spu...

Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone says her office has received a large number of calls from people who are outraged by comments reportedly made by Sheik Taj el-Din Al Hilali.

But isn't that what happens when someone from the Mess Media has gone out of their way to create xenophobia? Complaints from racist nationalist bigots?

Typical of the war criminal John Howard gov't who desperately wants to whip up fears and change the subject about his governments lies and discrepancies. Slowly building the community up for a move to send more troops to war in Iraq, Iran and Syria. She knows that and so does the mess media as it happens all the time, lately!

Melbourne Indymedia also suffered all sorts of xenophobic attacks by trolls ever since the mess media reported the material very widely and that happens all the time.

When are we going to get a break from her government and political media establishments stupidity? And haven't we got anything better to do than divide the community?

Just who keeps bringing this race hate material to our attention? Mess Media! This is what we have to endure because of it,

Preaching true Islam

We must pay attention to this totally honest hateful Muslim leader that remains a light of truth in an otherwise silent darkness.

http://melbourne.indymedia.org/news/2007/01/136110.php

===========================

Let's see the "left" defend this one

In October, Sheik Hilaly compared women to covered meat, now he comes up with a dispicable racist comment. The left condemned the media response but not Hilaly. Watch the linguistic acrobatics when they try to defend this one.......................................

http://melbourne.indymedia.org/news/2007/01/136060.php

=============================

No! We don't want to have to defend main scream media propaganda. Hate posts!

No! We shouldn't be defending ourselves against nonsense that just plays with people's emotions.

But we could be sharing ideas and being constructive not destructive in order to make this world a better place like dealing with climate change?

All this other race hate material has been projected onto the community so John Howard can continue to wage illegal and degrading wars in far off places by creating fear in the community and by spreading fears that, - somehow our way of life is under some sort of attack from the same ethnic group or race of people that the Howard government and the coalition of the killing are attacking in the middle east.

But she and her dictatorship will distance themselves from the propaganda and say that they had nothing to do with the report? Right!

The Sheik reportedly told Egyptian television people who paid to come to Australia have a greater right to be in the country than Anglo-Saxons who arrived in shackles.

So what! Ask the Aboriginals what they think. I know the answer and it will be that their land was stolen by the stolenwealth. Why don't the mess media make that front page news considering we're getting close to the anniversary of Sovereignty Day January 26? Because it does not suit their agenda or give any power to Howard to continue to wage war in the Middle East, that's why!

Australia Day, Invasion Day or Aboriginal Sovereignty Day?

http://adelaide.indymedia.org/newswire/display_any/57839

From the newswire

But the sheik is nothing more than an "agent provocateur", whether he knows it or not. Most of the time, comments in the Egyptian media bare little or no importance to our own media here in Oz, but not today!

Every newspaper, every radio station, every TV news and current affairs programme, are all itching to tell us all what the sheik 'thinks' of Australia and Australians. The net result - his comments become 'topic of the day' at workplaces around Australia, and all the racist and terrorism-fearing citizens among the population feel a little more justified in their hatred of the Muslim community.

It's not his comments that are important, it's the effect that the dissemination of those comments have on a predominantly racist Australian population...

Sheik Taj el-Din Al Hilali is also reported to have said the Australian law guarantees freedoms to the point of insanity.

Did he mean draconian laws, hate speech, lies or something else?

Senator Vanstone says Sheik Al Hilali has used these same freedoms, (freedom of speech and association)? On countless occasions to attack Australia's heritage, society and values.

But not to defend his morals, ethics, principals and values?

Like we all do against a despotic government that is out of control?

Funny that I happen to use these same freedoms as well because Australia's heritage, society and values at this point in time are despotic.

She has also reminded the Sheik that if he does not like Australia, he does not have to come back.

But perhaps he like all Australians has an opinion that some of us agree with and if he doesn't like Australia the way it is with a war criminal running the country then let him say so because of his freedom.

But by taking us all into illegal and degrading wars and by committing crimes against humanity and against those same ethnic communities in the middle east who also live here and may have families over there and by introducing draconian laws based on lies and by winding up people in this country, then people especially from the middle east are going to have something to say about it!

What does she expect Australian's who were born here to do if they don't like it?

Jump overboard?

These are crimes by our government and they should be spoken about without harassment.

A typical example in relation to setting people up which is not just Xenophobia against Muslims or Islam but engaging in lies, propaganda and fear to wind up the general community into some type of panic is when the mess media make arrangements for those baseless fears by having the community believe that we're under attack.

Parliament House Terror Plot? A good reason to go to war?

Plot to blow up Lucas Heights?

Plot to blow up the Harbour Bridge.

All based on lies.

Australian media seizes upon Muslim cleric’s comments to whip up xenophobia

There is now an inescapable necessity for all those opposed to militarism and war, and committed to the defence of democratic rights, to develop an independent political opposition to the xenophobic campaign being directed against Muslims. No faction of the media or political establishment has any opposition to the drive to militarise society under the banner of “Australian values”, and all are complicit in the cultivation of anti-Muslim communalism.

debnam has got to go!

The New South Wales Flopposition Leader, peter debnam, says an anti-American statement made by Sydney cleric Sheikh Taj el-Din Al Hilaly was a virtual declaration of war on Western society. So debnam actually thinks war crimes against humanity and the death of 665,000 Iraqi men, women and children for democracy is a fair argument? Sack him before it's too late, please!

Homegrown war criminal's 'a serious problem in Australia'

Jump, scream, run and hide the muswims are coming to get you! Everywhere I turn there is another terrorist. I opened the sugar bowl this morning and there was a terrorist cockroach just waiting to get me, after stealing my sugar mind you. So we must be very alert and very alarmed. How else would a war criminal get re-elected after a holocaust and what looks like a third interest rate rise this year? Mostly, Howard's goals can only be attained, amongst other things, if he pushes race hate buttons and whilst you continue to live in fear.

When is Howard's ABC going to stop bullying the Sheikh?

There is still uncertainty concerning the future of the ABC executive that took a John Howard Government and Opposition led media packed frenzied attack on Sheikh Al Hilaly for over a week and are responsible for bullying the Sheikh until he had chest pains and was rushed to hospital yesterday. Now this morning they've attacked him again. Are they trying to kill the man?

Latest campaign to demonise Islam and intimidate the Muslim Community

“The public furore ignited in response to the reported comments made by Sheik Taj Al-Din Al-Hilali has little to do with the question of crime or culpability. What is clear is that a consistently negative view of Islam and Muslims is being generated in this country with the aim of demonising Islam and silencing the Muslim community.”

Empathising with parrots
by M Ryutin Friday January 12, 2007 at 10:23 PM

What a mixed bag.

Convicts. Cat's meat. Find it hard to decide, Greg?

The mufti rubbishes convicts and he is only talking about those who came here up until the 1850's. You can empathise with that, but you don't know anything about the thieves of pocket handkerchiefs who Hilaly finds so distasteful. No, Greg, that leaves you out of it. Such minor crimes.

With the 'cat's meat', that's more to your liking. His perceived attitudes to women strikes a chord with you no doubt.

Defending the indefensible is right up your alley.

In The End
by David Saturday January 13, 2007 at 02:43 AM

At the end of the day it is hypocritical for the community to be outraged by the comments made by this man, and not recognise similar, if not worse comments made by the priests from out state religion of christianity. why do we only care about what a muslim says, but not so much what someone says from christianity. a bit off balance maybe? at the end of the day, either both sides should have the right to say what they want under the excuse of religion, or none say it at all regardless.

Who says we ignore inappropriate comments made by Christian leaders?

You've never read criticism of George Pell anywhere?

You've forgotten that a former Governor General, Rev Peter Hollingworth, resigned his office as a result of criticism of his mishandling of sexual abuse allegations by an Anglican priest during his stint as Archbishop of Brisbane?

You need to get out and expand your reading, buddy. Otherwise we might mistake you for an ignorant tool.

And we wouldn't want that, would we?

Deportation
by Threats Saturday January 13, 2007 at 12:30 PM

George Pell wasn't told to leave the country, stay away if he didn't like it, or threatened by deportation. Governor General, Rev Peter Hollingworth was plagued by closing his own eyes to sexual abuse of young children in his own community. From memory he wasn't even told to stay away, leave the country of threatened with deportation.

Why do you think we got, "Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone says her office has received a large number of calls from people who are outraged by comments reportedly made by Sheik Taj el-Din Al Hilali. "

No, neither Pell nor Hollingworth were told to leave the country. So what? David's assertion was that Christian clerics are never criticised publicly, therefore we should all shut up about this turbanned tool. I pointed out just two examples where Christian leaders WERE criticised publicly.

Pretty simple, really.

David's prejudiced assertion versus my evidence-based rebuttal.

Criticised for what? Being bigots, homophobia and turning a blind eye to criminal acts.

Regardless it's simply not the same as just having an opinion in relation to status! No comparison really. What was gainsaying?

What about putting all that media energy onto the real criminals in public office that would be far more worthwhile. The reasons they don't are clear. They are in on it too. This is a blatant attack on civil liberties and very divisive.

Howard government unveils new “Australian values” citizenship test

The cultivation of racialist tensions is aimed at cutting directly across the class solidarity between workers of all backgrounds that has characterised recent mass rallies and protests against the Iraq war, the IR laws and in defence of living standards.

Muslims and those of Middle Eastern descent are the immediate focus of this attack. In February last year, Howard said Muslim immigrants posed a unique social threat, citing a supposed “fragment which is utterly antagonistic to [Australian] society.” He claimed that “raving on about jihad” made Muslims particularly dangerous, insinuating that they were likely to be terrorists. Treasurer Peter Costello later declared that Muslims should accept “Australian values or leave.” The clear implication was that those who refused to pledge their allegiance to officially-defined “values” should be stripped of citizenship and deported.

In so far as Fraser has opposed aspects of this program, the Murdoch media has branded him a “darling of the Left”. Not exactly the point
by David Monday January 15, 2007 at 01:34 PM

i am sorry if my point wasnt all that straightforward, but i was trying to suggest that the meedia's efforts and resources be directed equally amongst religious bigetry, or none at all.

in teh example provided above, i agree that they were examples. however, by comparison, how many chrisitian leaders have been on the news as opposed to muslim ones in the past 12 months? i can remember 9 muslims being on the news for their comments and/or being dubeed as fundamentalists.

however, i believe that it makes sense that we wouldnt pay so much attention considering australia's lack of secularism, and the religious bias of the media (for example, do we see channel 10 playing muslim services everyday?)
