by Inside Information Thursday January 04, 2007 at 06:14 PM

STRAIGHT FROM THE BOYS CLUB WILL HE DO THE JOB? BUT WHO FOR? QLD AND THE POLICE BOYS CLUB. NO DOUBT!

NSW GOV'T BUM BOY TO...
different.jpg, image/jpeg, 366x291

WE WANT A BLACK FELLA TO HEAD ANY REVIEW OF THE CASE. THE WHITE DPP HAD THEIR CHANCE AND BLEW IT! WE WANT THE TRUTH ABOUT A PALM ISLAND DEATH IN CUSTODY NOT A GOV'T STOOGE TO ONCE AGAIN TURN THE FACTS ON THEIR HEAD AND OVER TO THE POLICE THIN BLUE LINE FOR A PROMOTION AND ANOTHER BLACK WHACK DOWN THE TRACK!

Sir Laurence Street to review Mulrunji case

Former New South Wales chief justice Sir Laurence Street has agreed to head a review into the case of a Palm Island death in custody.

Sir Laurence will provide a second opinion on the Queensland Director of Public Prosecutions' (DPP) decision not to charge a policeman over the death of the man known as Mulrunji in a watch-house in 2004.

A coroner had found Senior Sergeant Chris Hurley hit Mulrunji so hard he cleaved his liver in two, but DPP Leanne Clare found the death appeared to be accidental.

The Queensland Government was forced to appoint someone new to lead the review after its original choice, retired judge Pat Shanahan, quit over a perceived conflict of interest.

Acting Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says Sir Laurence is a highly respected legal figure in Australia and overseas.

"Sir Laurence Street is someone in whom I think everybody can have absolute confidence," she said.

"He is someone who has the independence and the experience to consider this matter."

by Waiting Thursday January 04, 2007 at 08:56 PM

Please name the black fella with the requisite legal qualifications, experience and ability to put a sentence together without ending it with the word 'but'.

We await with bated breath.

What?
by Kevin Thursday January 04, 2007 at 10:03 PM

NSW Magistrate Pat O'Shane amongst many others would do just fine!

You seem to think black people don't know what colour white is?

Shows how much you know about black people and qualifications!

If you think black people are stupid then you're a racist!

Need for a broad and deep investigation of Queensland Police and Prosecution practices
by Andreas Berg Thursday January 04, 2007 at 11:45 PM
avberg@optusnet.com.au

I would like to express my belief that a small commission appointed by Queensland Attorney-General to only investigate whether it is reasonable or not to prosecute Sergeant Chris Hurley is not enough. There are many other cases of alleged injustice, wrong charges, maltreatment by police, biased approach, etc, such as Vincent Berg's case, for example. What we need is a parliamentary commission undertaking a broad and deep investigation of Queensland Police and Prosecution practices. I do believe it is crucial for such a Commission to announce publicly phone, fax, and e-mail hotlines for complaints against Queensland Police and Prosecution. It is time to analyse what has been really improved since Fitzerald's Commission, what is not, and what further actions must be performed to make Queensland justice system efficiently functioning within democratic society.

Look who's biased now
by Fuckwit Watcher Friday January 05, 2007 at 08:53 AM

And we wouldn't want anyone with a bias involved, would we Andreas? By the way, is Vincent Berg related or just a coincidence?

Biased, prejudiced twerp.

And the above tool who asserts you don't need a genuis but a lawyer doesn't know how right they are when it comes to many lawyers.

Prejudiced twerp and silly tool. It's what brings us back here for more of the same.

pale and frightened

david@ironyparty.org

its whitey's fear talking...
fear of a non-anglo planet.
Blood vengeance coming whitey's way,
and the soft greedy grubs are afraid.
Now Whitey's lashing out in customary boorish style.
Payback coming, and when its done so will White Power be done in Australia.

All lawyers are playing Whitey's game. And the game is rigged in Whitey's favour. Best not to play.

walled up
by david Friday January 05, 2007 at 08:43 PM
david@ironyparty.org

Im not biased, naturally, but obviously Queensland pigs should lose a finger - retroactively - for every black death in custody and when their fingers are done, move on to the toes. And for those directly responsible - wall them up in a room somewhere with a blade- they can choose starvation or quicker.
