Today Wednesday 22nd November from 11,30am to 1pm members of the sedition charter put on a moot trial outside the County Court (public private partnership Liberty -Packer- Corporation & Victorian Justice Department) corner of Lonsdale and William Streets.
25 citizens formed a circle on the forecourt of the County Court and refused to depart, security and police left us alone to continue the moot trial. We raised the banner of Eureka and took the oath
"We swear by the Southern Cross to stand truly by each other and fight to defend our rights and liberties." Eureka Rebeliion Oath 1854.
For the Prosecution: Those gathered heard the opening statement about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which the Commonwealth of Australia is a signatory party to.
Ten people present then each went through 3 of the 30 Principles and contrasted them with the current Government policies and Laws.
For the Defence: A photocopied letter from Attorney General Phillip Ruddock was circulated and then read out in one part of which he determines that: "restrictions on the exercise of many of the individual rights in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights may be made for the protection of national security. Rights such as liberty of movement, and freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association are quailified in this way."
All those present were convinced that the Commonwealth Government has failed in its obligations to uphold at least 25 of the 30 Articles.
A further detailed and photographic record will be posted on Melbourne Indymedia and the web site of http://www.seditioncharter.org soon.

Human beings are born with inalienable human rights which include the right to food, shelter, personal security, freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom of religion and freedom from the fear of arbitrary arrest, detention, interrogation, torture, imprisonment and execution.
Citizens have both a right and a duty to oppose and resist governments that attempt to legislate away their inalienable human rights. They have a right under the 1946 United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, and a duty under the principles that were outlined in the Nuremburg Trials that were conducted after world war two that found that obeying the law and following orders could not be used as a justification for denying people their inalienable human rights.
Sedition Charter 2006 Sign the Sedition Charter Why Sign? Over the past decade, the Howard led Coalition government supported by the Labor Opposition, has passed a raft of legislation that has removed many of the rights and liberties Australians have enjoyed for generations.
We encourage Australians who wish to register their opposition to these laws and who believe citizens have both a right and a duty to agitate against governments that strip citizens of their inalienable rights, to sign the SEDITION CHARTER to openly demonstrate their opposition to these laws. WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR, BUT FEAR ITSELF.
