Nice photographs. And the early ones give a good idea of the large size of the crowd.

Use of violence against police
by Nefertiti
Monday November 20, 2006 at 01:44 PM
I work in one of the buildings near the Grand Hyatt and I heard that protestors tried to enter the building I work in but were repulsed.
I am concerned that the protestors went down to the level of the police and other critics on the weekend. I understand that the police use dreadful tactics, but we must not go there.
I don't know if they are true - they may not be - but the head of security at our organisation is an ex-cop, and he heard from his ex-colleagues that they had been bombed with choice things as condoms filled with urine and I have also heard reports in the media that some of the police were bitten and need to now undergo HIV tests to see whether they are alright.
I know it is a natural instinct to reply in the manner in which we have been provoked, and Nelson Mandela made that mistake initially in his epic struggle against oppression, yet he learnt over the years that the only way to combat the enemy is with non-violence, as Mahatma Gandhi taught.
Otherwise, the enemies can criticise you, can point at you and say that you are no better than animals.

Violence against the police is always right, there won`t be any change if you just use the means the state allows you. Every cop choosed his job himself, and believe me, the cops do not even think about using violence if they once get the order to do so. The police is just a part of the problem, and has to be treated exactly that way. As long as they keep beating, I keep hating.
