While others gathered for a concert at the Meyer Music Bowl to 'Make Poverty History', a small group assembled on the hill above Birrarung Marr for a 24-hour vigil

The aim was to 'Positively [influence] the G20 meeting and those protesting it' (see previous posting - http://melbourne.indymedia.org/news/2006/11/129488_comment.php#129717 - and visit the website http://groups.msn.com/ABetterWorld-G20Vigil). Starting about 7.30pm with chanting, participants intended to spend the evening in discussion and guided meditation, resuming at sunrise tomorrow with yoga and a series of talks on different spiritual practices, with prayer and meditation led by, amongst others, a Tibetan monk and a representative of the Islamic faith. All are welcome 'of any faith or none', though anyone planning to join the circle tonight is advised to bring very warm clothing, as the outlook is for a cold night in the open by the river, under a clear, moonless sky.
