Sedition Charter stands defiant outside Hyatt (G20 plunder party ghq)
by Seditionary Pete Wednesday November 15, 2006 at 02:31 PM

Today, Wednesday November 15th 2006, at 11.30am members of the www.seditioncharter.org stood up for their rights outside the Hyatt Hotel entrance (corner Collins and Russell Streets City).

The assembled police asserted we had to depart from the footpath
as we were a 'breach of the peace' but we refused and asked for the Officer in Charge to attend and explain what was our offence ?

Meanwhile we raised our banner and distributed leaflets to the police, Hotel staff and passers-by.

We were joined by members of the public who welcomed our presence and seditious spirit.

The Australian flag was lowered by Hotel staff and put away and replaced with the G20 blue and white flag.

Sedition Charter convenor Dr Joseph Toscano who had to give his details to the Police sergeant earlier then spoke out about the importance of using our civil liberties.

The irony of the lowering of the Australia flag and domination of the G20 flag was greeted with boos and comments about the Plunder by Capitalism of the people and the planet.

A Black flag was waved symbolising no States and the Indigenous/aboriginal colours of red and gold and Torres Strait Islander colours of green and blue in recognition of the traditional owners.

We ended at 12.30pm to caucus in a circle and confirm to each other our next vigil outside the County Court
250 William Streets
next Wednesday November 22nd
from 11.30am until 1pm.

We will be prosecuting a moot trial of the Commonwealth of Australia's record of intentionally disregarding or violating
the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (article 1-30).

All that is missing is YOU - so please consider attending.
If you cannot make it on the day think about signing the Sedition Charter.

A good effort by all despite the weather and Police attempt to stand over us. Good luck to all the other seditionaries in your activities this week. Some of us will be at the Carnival Against Capitalism on Saturday - look for Eureka banner.

"We swear by the Southern Cross to stand truly by each other and fight to deend our rights and liberties."

Melbourne prepares for G20 Forum

AM - Wednesday, 15 November , 2006 08:18:00
Reporter: Josie Taylor

TONY BEASTLEY: Melbourne has begun a major security lockdown in preparation for this week's G20 Forum.

Many of the world's financial leaders will attend the conference, creating huge logistical and security problems for Victoria Police.

While police say they have no specific information on any terrorist threats, they are warning that groups of protesters may try and occupy inner-city buildings, and they want big corporations to consider hiring extra security.

Josie Taylor reports.

JOSIE TAYLOR: Finance ministers and leading bankers from 20 nations, as well as the head of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, will converge on the city for the world's biggest financial conference.

Victoria Police Superintendent Mick 'Baton' Williams heads up police operations for the G20 Forum.

MICK 'Laura Norda' WILLIAMS: We'll have a significant number of policy on duty on the streets in Melbourne during the G20 Forum, but we'll also be in a position to escalate to an even greater level within a short space of time, should the need arise.

JOSIE TAYLOR: And do you anticipate that need to arise?

MICK 'CAPSICUM SPRAY' WILLIAMS: Well, previous G20s that have been conducted around the world have been pretty well uneventful, and it just appears at this time that the one in Melbourne is attracting a little bit of protest action.

On Friday, a number of protesters plan to split up into small groups and occupy the foyers of large corporations in Melbourne, and we'd certainly like to get that message out to the business managers and property owners in the CBD (central business district) that just review your security plans and you may even consider putting extra security on, on Friday.

I mean, quite often these people come in, they'll occupy the foyers, they'll antagonise your employees who are coming and going, and just a lot easier all round if everybody looks after their own security.

JOSIE TAYLOR: Do you have any information that the protests will turn violent?

MICK "Gettem' Fang" WILLIAMS: The information we've read on the websites is around their passive protest, and we expect they will adopt tactics that will involve blockades and so-forth.

JOSIE TAYLOR: Victoria Police says it wants to avoid confrontation, and for the first time will use crowd safety officers to interact with protesters.

Superintendent Williams says police have learnt many lessons since the ugly clashes outside the World Economic Forum six years ago.

MICK "Book em Danno" WILLIAMS: If we need to use any barricades or traffic diversions, we will use them in such a sense that they're less provocative than perhaps what was used in 2000.

JOSIE TAYLOR: Stop G20 is a collective of protest organisations targeting this weekend's forum.

Spokesman Marcus Greville says there are no violent protests planned, at least from the groups he speaks for.

MARCUS 'Niceness' GREVILLE: We've heard that the police said that there is a likelihood that protesters will be going into buildings, going up the lifts and occupying CEOs' offices. This is just an outrageous attempt to scare people away from participating in the protest on Saturday.

We want this to be a political action, and we don't want it marred by violence.

TONY EASTLEY: Marcus Greville from the Stop G20 collective speaking to our reporter Josie Taylor.

Why waste time hanging around the Grand Hyatt Hotel when most of the delegates (including the yanks)are staying at the Park Hyatt Hotel. No barriers to keep you away from the carpark or hotel entersnce. Very convienent!
