Today, Wednesday November 15th 2006, at 11.30am members of the www.seditioncharter.org stood up for their rights outside the Hyatt Hotel entrance (corner Collins and Russell Streets City).
The assembled police asserted we had to depart from the footpath as we were a 'breach of the peace' but we refused and asked for the Officer in Charge to attend and explain what was our offence ?
Meanwhile we raised our banner and distributed leaflets to the police, Hotel staff and passers-by.
We were joined by members of the public who welcomed our presence and seditious spirit.
The Australian flag was lowered by Hotel staff and put away and replaced with the G20 blue and white flag.
Sedition Charter convenor Dr Joseph Toscano who had to give his details to the Police sergeant earlier then spoke out about the importance of using our civil liberties.
The irony of the lowering of the Australia flag and domination of the G20 flag was greeted with boos and comments about the Plunder by Capitalism of the people and the planet.
A Black flag was waved symbolising no States and the Indigenous/aboriginal colours of red and gold and Torres Strait Islander colours of green and blue in recognition of the traditional owners.
We ended at 12.30pm to caucus in a circle and confirm to each other our next vigil outside the County Court 250 William Streets next Wednesday November 22nd from 11.30am until 1pm.
We will be prosecuting a moot trial of the Commonwealth of Australia's record of intentionally disregarding or violating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (article 1-30).
All that is missing is YOU - so please consider attending. If you cannot make it on the day think about signing the Sedition Charter.
A good effort by all despite the weather and Police attempt to stand over us. Good luck to all the other seditionaries in your activities this week. Some of us will be at the Carnival Against Capitalism on Saturday - look for Eureka banner.
"We swear by the Southern Cross to stand truly by each other and fight to deend our rights and liberties." Eurkea Oath Nover 1854.
