Scott Parkin and Iraqi Asylum Seeker win court victory
by davey Friday November 03, 2006 at 09:08 PM

In a huge victory - Scott Parkin and two Iraqi asylum seekers have won the right to view their negative ASIO security assessments in the Federal Court. The decision will expose the governments bogus attempts to link peace activism and asylum seekers with terrorism.

Scott Parkin was deported last year as a "national security threat" after he toured the country promoting non-violent civil disobedience. ASIO and the government refused to release the contents of his security assessment.

Similarly two Iraqi asylum seekers have languished on Nauru for five years again because of a secret ASIO security assessment. One of the asulum seekers remains on Nauru whilst the other has cracked up and is now in a psychiatric instition on the mainland. They too now have the right to see the secret accusations made against them.

The government is considering its a options and one can predict that Ruddock and co will appeal to the High Court but for today at least a light of democracy has broken through the fog oppresive security legislation.

Congrats to all
by Anthony Friday November 03, 2006 at 10:10 PM

Congratulations to all involved in the Friends of Scott Parkin http://www.scottparkin.org and the dedicated legal team. Excellent ongoing solidarity and support!

If the inevitable appeals fail then we just might finally get to see why ASIO and the Federal government is so scared of the strategic nonviolence that Scott was teaching over here. See http://www.peoplepowerstrategy.org/

Evangelist Admits Meth, Massage, No Sex
Nov 03 2:34 PM US/Eastern
By CATHERINE TSAI
Associated Press Writer

Evangelist Ted Haggard admitted Friday that he bought methamphetamine and
received a massage from a gay prostitute
who claims he was paid for drug-fueled trysts
by the outspoken gay marriage opponent.

Haggard resigned Thursday as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and stepped down as leader of his Colorado megachurch while the two groups investigate the allegations.

Talking to reporters outside his house Friday,
Haggard denied the sex allegations
but said that he did buy meth from the man
because he was curious.

"I BOUGHT IT for myself BUT NEVER USED it," he said.
"I WAS TEMPTED, but I NEVER USED it."

Haggard, a married father of five, said he
never had sex with Mike Jones,
a 49-year-old male prostitute who sparked the scandal when he told a radio station he had had a three-year sexual relationship with the minister.
He said he DID get a massage from Jones after being referred to him by a Denver hotel.
