Anti-nazi protest at Birmingham Hotel, Fitzroy
by pc Saturday October 28, 2006 at 08:32 PM

Responding to the abuse of a local woman by white-supremacists after a Neo-Nazi concert last month at the Birmingham Hotel in Fitzroy, anti-fascists visited the hotel today ...

The event in question has already been reported here - http://melbourne.indymedia.org/news/2006/10/128359.php. As part of the protest today, a group which made the rounds of local businesses reported a positive response from traders, and orange flyers were to be seen in many shop windows, with the message "Racism is not welcome here." The owner of the hotel itself was less accomodating, and appeared close to assaulting someone who had planted a couple of stickers to the same effect on the pub sign - the police sensibly enough advised him to go back inside. Other protesters engaged in at times heated discussions with pool-playing patrons inside the bar, where again the reception seemed less than positive. Yarra's socialist councillor Steve Jolly was among those who addressed the crowd, which included a prominent punk presence, as well as members of a women's group and the anti-fascist collective Fightdemback (http://www.fightdemback.org/).

why make martyrs?
by weez Sunday October 29, 2006 at 11:15 AM

Blowing up the Birmy, or even suggesting it, is beyond stupid. The community would be much better served with a simple change of ownership.

Irresponsible publicans not only should find a new line of work but Consumer Affairs Victoria have liquor licensee regulations that can be used to enforce pub operation that does not detract from the 'amenity' of the community.

Gary brought the nazi skinheads to Fitzroy. It's not 'somebody else's bullshit,' it's GARY's bullshit.

little indians
by flea circus Sunday October 29, 2006 at 05:10 PM

good idea fuckwits ... lets all attack each other and forget all about Bush and Howard ... if boneheads target the powers instead of skin colour then fine, if not, then they are irrelevant and will be dealt with by the usual authorities.

KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL --- don't you know a psy-Op when you see one?

Message of Solidawity
by Student Gwant Sunday October 29, 2006 at 11:49 PM

Yah! Wight-on comwades. This is just how Hitler got started - in a beer hall! Amanda and myself, the chairs of The Post-Industrial Goths Against The Nazis send messages of Solidawity. We would have been there too (we've got a weally weally cool banner that looks weally awesome), but Amanda's dad wouldn't let us bowwow the Lexus - the Fascist Bastard!

gary was skin
by G Monday October 30, 2006 at 03:58 PM

the owner of the birmingham hotel was a skinhead in his youth, which is probably why he lets them do gigs there, that and the cash, which hopefully he will now be losing alot of cos of media attention

I love to have a beer at the Birmy
by Wabble Wouser Monday October 30, 2006 at 06:05 PM

I'll be sure to stop for a beer in the name of free speech next time I'm passing by. Anyone who fears skins taking over the world sure is fucked up.

restoring civilisation
by david Tuesday October 31, 2006 at 03:34 AM
david@ironyparty.org

ye Wabble Wowser, you might have noticed the uncivilised parents of those same pale 'skins' already own and run the world in large part. It's about the protection of the supremacy of the barbarian Anglosphere Problem is redressing the balance the other way, taking out these savages and restoring civilisation.
