Bono's Creed of Greed, or Outing Bono
by Warwick Fry Saturday October 21, 2006 at 05:13 PM
wkf10@bigpond.com 0266891718 8 ThorburnSt. Nimbin

Bono has disgraced himself (again) with his sponsorship of a computer game that simulates an invasion of Venezuela. Music mix created in the studios of 2NimFM Community Radio. A call to Australians to protest Bono's upcoming tour in early November. He refuses to answer questions about his involvement with the Pentagon funded games company.

Preview of one of a series of songs being organised by the Australian Venezuelan Solidarity Network in anticipation of Bono (of U2 fame) touring Australian in early November 2006. Bono has refused to answer questions about his involvement (as a board member) of the "Pandemic" software company that has a contract with the Pentagon to produce training simulations for US troops. A spin off has been a commercial product, "Mercenaries 2: World in Flames" that describes an invasion of Venezuela to "... overthrow an oil hungry Dictator", viewed by many as a classic psy-ops production.

Supporters of the humane, Bolivarian revolution in Venezuela (the President, is after all, putting oil revenue back into social programs and sustainable development and technologies) might like to burn this, and upcoming tracks onto a CD for distribution at Bono's concerts]

"Bono's Creed of Greed" - Chavez, far from being a dictator, commands huge popular and democratic support. At every constitutional crisis provoked by the US (including coup attempts) he has bounced back merrily with elections, Since the turn of the century, he has consistently improved his majority vote, now rating somewhere between 70 and 80 percent. His popularity ratings are still rising. (Might have something to do with the fact that he is investing oil revenues into social programs and sustainable devlopment ...and the consistent 10 percent growth rate of the Venezuelan economy since he introduced 'socialistic' programs of government investment, since the 1990s ... ).

Clearly the game is part of a massive Psy-ops operation by the US government establishment to crank up support for an intervention in Venezuela.

Bono refuses to respond to requests to rethink the release of the game. Despite claims to having 'social activist' credentials, his endorsement of this game proves that really, it's all posturing. Bono has disgraced himself and alienated fans on earlier occasions: Once (during the 90s) by taking his huge earnings offshore to avoid paying taxes that could go to the Irish people, (perhaps to build schools and hospitals?) and again by becoming one of the heaviest copyright cops on the Internet. ('We don't want anyone hearing us before they've paid ... !"). We know where he is coming from, so don't be confused by where he says he's been; he certainly doesn't want us to know where he lives. Watch this space for more developments, more deep background on Bono, more musical sketches for him and his fans and the very, very, warm welcome being prepared for him on his Australian tour.

But, I digress
by McKenzie Friend Saturday October 21, 2006 at 09:45 PM

Let's stop jerkin' our gherkins here.

The only reasons we cheer Chavez is becuase he publicly declares his hatred for Bush.

He's a failure as a leader of Venezuela. Despite vast oil reserves, the country is a shit hole which Chavez makes no real attempts to improve.

Instead, he's busy giving cheap oil to Americans and strutting the world stage.

A vidio game ate my baby
by err Monday October 23, 2006 at 12:43 PM

Errr... We shouldn't be so uptight as to protest video games.

Its fine to protest the training sim (as far as i can tell), but to protest a video game is just nuts, freedom of expression is numero uno.

If you really want to protest the game then form a collective and put a skin together for Quake where you invade Emerica... far more effective and it wont put you in the same boat as loonie religious nuts trying to ban violence, blood and guts in games.

These actions are not unprecedented... in fact Chinese nationalists kicked up a stink just a few months ago over Japanese symbols in a game.

http://chinadigitaltimes.net/[...]

So there you have it, your in the same bed as right wing christian neo cons and left wing commie nationalists... who ever said the Left / Right dichotomy was stupid ?

Ven. is no shithole

in response to a poster below, i've been to Venezuela to research an article about Chavez and the fifth anniversary of his becoming president a few years ago, and i have to disagree. it is a lovely country full of people who support their president and have overwhelmingly elected him time and time again because his is a successful leader who has used the country's oil revenues to the benefit of many of its poorest citizens

that's why i like Chavez, not just because we both don't like Bush.

BONO and Neoliberal VIRUS PANDEMIC
by Anne Tuesday October 24, 2006 at 10:57 PM

BONO IS PART OF THE NEOLIBERAL VIRUS PANDEMIC.

As George Monbiot says, "Far from challenging the G8’s role in Africa’s poverty, Geldof and Bono are legitimising its power."

http://www.monbiot.com/archives/2005/06/21/bards-of-the-powerful/

there should be SPECIFIC QUARANTINE for the likes of him at the G20 for viruses like him, that inject themselves into an unsuspecting host (the idea of poverty reduction), take out its DNA, and insert its own DNA into it (saving the poor through neoliberal agribusiness -led free trade)

what would seem like a nice rockstar is actually part of an elaborate biowarfare complex...

political strategy - pissing on the elderly
by david Monday October 30, 2006 at 10:31 PM
david@ironyparty.org

except he doesn't seem like a 'nice rockstar' if there is such a thing.
Bono's always been a complete twat. And a compliant little corporate instrument... what else has 'U2' ever been, except cheesy pop for the corporate media? Now they're on a kudos drive, along with Geldof, because material wealth gets boring and the immensely greedy want more. (for more on this theme, see Madonna)

No outing necessary for these tools. The details are good to know, though.

I recommend waiting til Bono gets old and infirm, then turn up at the nursing home and piss on him. If enough people participate in this simple protest action, it should have some impact in the long run.
