The ocean has reached tipping point.
by Simon Willace Tuesday August 22, 2006 at 12:34 PM

From unpublished research. The ocean has reached tipping point. Land erosion is caused by the sea wearing away coastlines + the acidic ph level of salt water. The two combine creating the coastlines we are already worried about. The coastlines are disappearing the sea is rising; the beaches are being swept away, on a global scale.

The ocean has reache...

Just one section of a limestone coast being dissolved or eaten away by acidic oceans.

However, beachfront property still gets good money on a market only concerned about interest rate rises not sea level changes.
.
Ocean acidification does more than weaken the foundations of homes or thin the shell fish markets and interrupt the food chain.

Areas once inhabited in Pakistan have already been abandoned, because freshwater aquifers are becoming too saline.

locally in Australia, Perth must find alternate water its aquifers are salty and in coastal South Australia the aquifer is too saline for irrigation.
Victoria’s coast is affected while the Great Barrier Reef is breaking up and being bleached.

However Australians still flush their toilets with drinking water and will not drink recycled sewage water unless it comes from the Murray River, so who's worried?

The oceans are becoming more and more turbulent as severe weather becomes more frequent, this action causes more chlorides to be formed in the surf and as a knock on effect the Ozone hole is getting bigger.

However, as Chinese white goods and cheap asian air-con systems still use ozone depleting gas without gas recovery being forced in Asia AUSTRALIA OR America, who give a shit about cancer causing UV rays anyway?

Ocean acidification, is, as we speak, dissolving lime stone coast lines here and anywhere else globally that limestone, coral or the fossilised calcium remains of geosequestered aquatic life is exposed to acidic oceans.

These natural outcrops of sequestered carbon dioxide contain more co2 than your average industrial nation can emit while burning the spoils of any future Middle Eastern Conflict.

But who really gives a crap? Let’s be real. The right wing Christians war mongers have a second coming in their heads who will solve all problems, yeagh no shit!!
He’s on his way, alleluyah!!
Bush be praised.

Gesus #2 will convert the Jews and rid the world of terrorist while cooling the planet with one push of alien superman breath, in time to watch big brother humiliate another bunch of social misfits who inspire our youth to sit around the house and care about nothing.

Thankyou for your time.

Needs more research

Simon,
you could have researched this article much better. While ocean acidification is a growing problem you do not provide any scientific sources. Try these:

* Listen to marine ecologist Joanie Kleypas discuss ocean acidification with New Scientist's Ivan Semeniuk (mp3 file, 7MB).<br>
http://www.newscientist.com/data/images/ns/av/mg19125631A1.mp3

* Nature article - http://www.ipsl.jussieu.fr/~jomce/acidification/

* Seas Turn To Acid As They Absorb Global Pollution

I don't think the increase in the ocean acidity is the major factor in wearing away of our coasts. Mechanical factors are far more important than chemical factors in this process.

Certainly rising sea levels due to human induced climate change are going to have an enormous impact - they are already impacting Torres Strait Islanders. And if anything, the estimated rate of sea level rise has been quite conservative. Indications from Greenland is that the ice sheet is melting faster than anticipated, thus increasing the sea level rise.

maybe have another go at this Simon.

war

gathering evidence on climate change and global warming is pointless. Who are we trying to convince? Anyone who's not already seriously worried about the problem doesn't care, or doesn't care about the long term.

Also, whether global warming is real or not is in one sense immaterial. The changes to Western culture and civilisation that many of us want, we want regardless of whether we're about to face imminent disaster or not.

Next thing is, talking isn't working - as long as people who are concerned continue to try and convince those who don't give a shit, the latter group will laugh and go on fucking with the planet.

Eventually it must be faced that those who are chiefly responsible for laying waste to this planet, or covering it in concrete and high-rises, need to be taken out. Fought. Materially. Militarily. With guns.

The existing Government, police force, army of Australia have declared their colours. They're on the side that wants 'economic growth' and fuck the ecology.

Looks to me like these institutions are therefore the enemy. I can't see this changing as long as the Coalition or Labor are in power, and they will be in power as long as the Westminster system of government survives.

Thing is, we can't disentangle these things and hope to deal with global warming, and leave the foul little piggies at the centre of this mess to go on their merry way....

Global warming is part of a larger problem. Words are not enough to deal with this problem.

Has to be stepped up people. Whole thing is being played like a middle-class talkfest.

Reality is it needs to be fought like a war. Sticks and stones..... words will never touch them.

David/Vera
by Simon Willace Saturday August 26, 2006 at 01:35 PM

There was a guy in Sweden; he did a lot of research about industrial pollution. In his day factories pumped out so much smoke that it was thick in the air. He spent years doing research and offered a published work to suggest that the pollution could cause climate change. That was one hundred years ago Vera.
David has the right idea, I would add to it, that it doesn’t matter if I do the research, I will still be proving black is white and those in deep denial will still cause global destruction.

signs through nature
by susan charles rankin Monday August 28, 2006 at 08:10 AM

Our old people told us ahead of time what was to take place through nature itself because these they told us that these greedy people would not change their ways so then creator spirit and mother earth through nature itself will purge and cleanse itself that includes purging and cleansing the human race naturally along with it by natural disasters flash flooding cylcones tornadoes earth quakes tidal waves sea levels rising
droughts food chains dying.
But they also told us of the sacred places to go while nature is purging and cleansing itself where we will be safe.
This is why we do not worry because we just shift and change along with nature because we are apart of nature and nature is part of us it looks after us,it feeds us clothes us gives us water food,shelter and medicine what more do we need.
But we was also told to help others in these times to come
if they need food or medicine or shelter or water then we have to help them too.

Remember, boys and girls, that those words were written by a documented Nazi asswipe:

Only a few months ago suggesting that the Israeli experiment be brought to an end was considered in poor taste in polite conversation. Now, though, it's entirely accepted, and needs no explanation.

Sea Level, Erosion and Turbulence.

Sea Level, Erosion a...
a_plot_of_glaciations-vs.jpg, image/jpeg, 360x60

It is that the MECHANICAL erosion of coastline is far more relevant that attempt to present a 'rise in pH' for any 'acceleration in coastline erosion'. Notice that the mechanical aspects of erosion are linked to Turbulence production within the (liquid) Ocean water mass and then notice the outline article at the link '**' (below). The rise in Median Surface Temperature (& also overall 'System Turbulence') is well seen (see slides in link '**'), being related to rematerialing of the surface by, and within, the production of Human Habitat & not at all an impossible 'greenhouse effect'.

As a general reference, the overall 'mass of the Earth' is distributed as:-
atmosphere = 0.0000051
oceans = 0.0014

crust = 0.026
mantle 4.043
outer core 1.835
inner core 0.09675
-: with those values above expressing 'units of 10(exp)24 kilograms.

Remember the ‘Temperature of a System’ is that measure of Kinetic Energy residual within the materials constituting that System that is NOT directly involved in the production of the processes of Turbulence within that System. In a System where-in the Mass of the most involved materials contained is proportioned in kilograms(x10^24), then alterations to Turbulence within those materials WILL release (or uptake) vast amounts of Kinetic Energy, and that this will then be observed as a RISE (or DECLINE) in the measured Temperature of that System, with NO NEED for alteration of the RATE of overall ‘new’ Kinetic Energy induction. Interaction of Oceanic (slower) and Atmospheric (faster) process will see the style of variation of TEMPERATURE seen so far. So there is NOT even needed ANY application of 'greenhouse science' to explain present observations OF the System 'we' live within.

Also, this current 'warm climate period' is only ONE of many within the last ~3 Million year 'Primary Trough' period tween the 60 or so 'Glacial Events' there in contained, and it could well be the last of this present 'Period' without any need to allude to 'humanistic alterations' with the processes involved well beyond 'human tinkering' still (& fortunately). All Humanity has done is move where 'the Rain falls', but it will still be falling...just elsewhere than 'NOW'.

Notice also the altering Periodicity of the Primary Climate Oscillation in the chart included, but notice that the 'green blocks' delineate the Trough of the Primary Oscillation within which the Secondary Oscillation produces recurring Glaciations. It would NOT be UNNATURAL either if 'Climate' continued to rise from the current Primary Trough (seen as 'green blocked periods' in slide included here) behavior and return to the more 'common' Primary Crest behaviours. The process observations indicate NO reason to expect such will NOT happen. Then (reasonably) RAPID rise in relative sea level could occur and the Secondary Climate Oscillation will, instead of being outlined in recurring Glaciations, be observed in alterations to Relative Sea Level all of much 'higher' levels (at both the 'high' & 'low' points) than those within the 'current' ~3 Million year 'long' Primary Trough, generally speaking.

Attempts to present measure of CO2, or supposed 'greenhouse gases' generally, as a 'proxy' for Temperature ignores that fact that such measure do NOT indicate the actual induction of Kinetic Energy by those materials actually present. There is little relevancy of 'how much' CO2 is present to any valid determination of the overall Induction Rate of Kinetic Energy within the 'System' studied, and this is why measure of Temperature is not showing ANY reliably consistent & persistent (& thus valid) link to a 'proxy measure of CO2'. Hence the effort to discuss 'paleo-periods', or fabricated 'future scenarios', rather than NOW which is needing ONLY that those materials labelled as 'greenhouse' be regarded as general POLLUTION with remediations attached to suit such regard ONLY.

The supposed 'climate remediations' formed from within 'greenhouse supposition' can't have any beneficial effect, there isn't possible a 'greenhouse based' warming effect (with implementation of the 'greenhouse theory'), and so supposed 'greenhouse remediations' can only then be seen as potentially DETRIMENTAL to the NATURAL persistence of 'Natural events' & NATURAL alterations as observed in their still irregular but otherwise reasonable & 'GENTLE' Natural style.
