Working Rights: Worth Fighting For
Australia has a long history of fighting for working rights. In 2006, 150 years after Victorian workers fought for and won an eight-hour working day we are facing an extreme attack on those rights.
Under John Howard's IR laws many of the rights won in this country will be lost. Jobs will be threatened, real wages will go down, protection from unfair dismissal will disappear, workplace safety will be eroded. And that’s just the beginning. Yet we're here to continue the fight. We know from past success that we can overcome such attacks.
Stand up on June 28 and be join the fight against these unjust laws. Together we can win and overturn these extreme and dangerous laws. In 1856 Victorian workers campaigned for and won an eight-hour working day across all industries. This world first led to this country becoming known as the “Workers’ Paradise”.
Today, 150 years later, Australians work longer hours than any other OECD country and some of the longest in the world. Now it’s a case of Paradise Lost.
Yet the ideologically-driven Howard Government is seeking to erode working rights even further. Their WorkChoices legislation is the most serious attack on working people in Australian history. It will hit young workers, casual and part-time employees and working families the hardest. We won’t stand for it.
John Howard styles himself as the best friend the workers have ever had. We know better. We know your friends don’t rob you and lie to you and seek to destroy your way of life. Your mates stick up for you. During the past ten years the Howard Government has opposed every single increase in minimum working wages. At the same time executive salaries in Australia’s largest companies have risen to an average $3.4 million per year or around $64,000 per week! It obvious who John Howard’s mates are, and it’s not the working people of this country.

The 1st rule of project mayhem:
"Bring some music, some instruments, some drums and make some noise! "
The 2nd rule of project mayhem:
If you don't have a drum you probably do have a pot/pan and a wooden spoon. I was talking to somebody from Sth America who told me about a time when everybody, and that means everybody started banging and clanging on pots and pans like that over there. She said the noise was so incredible and even scary that it was hard to think. They had about five presidents in the space of months during that time. That really says something. I don't know what but something.
