[Civilrights] Urgent: protest tomorrow at terror hearing
by Gerard via sam Tuesday June 13, 2006 at 12:30 PM

THOUGHT CRIME IS NOT A CRIME! DROP THE CHARGES!

[Civilrights] Urgent...

Since November last year, thirteen Muslim men in Melbourne have been arrested under new anti-terrorism laws. After raids, police commissioners and politicians announced that an 'imminent terrorist attack' had been thwarted, though no weapons or plans were found, and the men were charged only with being linked to an unnamed terrorist group. There are no charges of terrorist activity. Instead their conversations - hundreds of hours of intercepted telephone calls - are being used against them.

For months, the men have been held in Barwon prison in Guantanamo Bay - style conditions, shackled and in solitary confinement for most of the day.

On Wednesday, they face their committal hearing. Civil Rights Defence believe they are unable to receive a fair trial because the laws that they are charged under are faulty. Join us outside the court to call for these bad laws to be revoked and for all charges to be dropped.

THOUGHT CRIME IS NOT A CRIME! DROP THE CHARGES!

Wednesday 14th June, 9.30am,
Melbourne Magistrates Court
233 William Street
