ALMOST VICTORY ?
On Friday February 3rd from 9.30 to 10.30am Fifty unionists and community activists gathered outside the Federal Court building 303 William Street, Melbourne in support of
Australia Post Fitzroy mail centre, Peter Irving the Communications Workers Union, delegate at Australia Post Fitzroy Mail Delivery Centre.

Back before Christmas in December 2005 Peter was dismissed by local management on a "trumped up" complaint as an excuse.
Since the sacking the AIRC Commisioner convened a Board of Reference (but without witnesses); which stated the dismissal was "harsh" & recommended Peter be transferred to a lower level.
AP bosses continued to victimise Peter by trying to then transfer him an hours drive away from Fitzroy; (where he has worked for 12 years) to do an entirely different job on an entirely different shift.

YOUR RIGHTS AT WORK WORTH FIGHTING FOR.
Today it was announced Peter's situation has, upon Union and Australia Post agreement, been moved away from the Courts to mediation.
BUT HE SHOULD NOT BE VICTIMISED BECAUSE HE IS A UNION DELEGATE !

Speakers included Joan Doyle from the CEPU, Dave Kerin from Union Solidarity, Joe Montero from Darebin Union Solidarity and Yarra Councillor Steve Roach.
Banners, flags & signs from the CEPU, the AMWU, IWW and Socialist Alliance were displayed and passers by leafleted about the situation.

RECENT EVENTS:
a December solidarity bbq for Peter Vining at the CEPU office in Collingwood;
two community assembly protests in January from 5.30am to 1pm, outside the Fitzroy Mail delivery Centre, calling for Peter Vining to be back here at work;
a community bbq with local housing estate residents and concerned unionists last Wednesday the 1st of february calling for Peter to stay working at the Fitzroy mail delivery.
