Picket line this morning
by Stephen Jolly Friday January 27, 2006 at 08:13 AM

Report of this mornings community picket in Fitzroy in solidarity with sacked posties shop steward, and notice of upcoming solidarity picket BBQ next Wednesday.

Comrades

This mornings community picket at the Australia Post Mail Distribution Center in Fitzroy was a great success with at least 50% of staff refusing to cross the line. The action was in solidarity with sacked shop steward Peter Vining.

The action was organised by Union Solidarity.

Trade unionists and community members, including from the Atherton Gardens Public Housing estate in Fitzroy, joined the protest. Management tried their bullyboy tactics to no avail and the police didn't really want to be dragged into this dispute by the bosses.

This coming Wednesday, February 1st at 1pm there will be an onsite community picket BBQ/rally against John Howard's IR legislation and the use of them by Australia Post to bully workers.

The address is the corner of Argyle and Gore Sts, Fitzroy.

Please attend and bring as many people as you can. Advertise this event via email, text messages etc. See you there.

Regards

Stephen Jolly, local ward Councillor City of Yarra (personal capacity)
