Deported in the Dead of Night
by Takver
Friday December 31, 2004 at 01:01 AM
At 1am on Thursday 30th December the Bakhtiari Family were bundled into cars and driven to the airport at Port Augusta to catch a chartered flight on the first leg of deportation to Pakistan.
Ali and Roqia Bakhtiari and their six children are being deported to Pakistan, after failing in legal bids over four years to secure refugee status in Australia. The family claims to be from Afghanistan with documentation that the Government has chosen to ignore.
Project SafeCom's Jack Smit commented, that "this game-in-the-dark, probably the final round of playing around with the lives and wellbeing of the Bakhtiary family is not just adding to the multiple layers of trauma Mr Howard, Mr Ruddock and Minister Vanstone have inflicted on this family, it will be something that will haunt the government for a long time - and so it should."
"The evidence the government has used to paint the Bakhtiaris as a Pakistani plumber's family is unbelievably flimsy, and it remains to be seen whether the Pakistani authorities will let them into the country at all. It is not the first time that "deportees" come bouncing back to Australia after having been sent all over the world by immigration authorities."
"And, even while the family may be able to enter Pakistan, the claims peddled in the Australian media by the Minister as well as the former Minister about suspected 'lies' of Mr Bakhtiari, are just that - spurious claims, and in addition they bear no relation to the fact that they are and were genuine refugees, because they are Hazaras, a point nobody disputes, while Minister Vanstone has happily peddledthe accusation in the media, to defend herself, that the family are not refugees."
Immigration Minister, Amanda Vanstone, in a gloating tone said the Bakhtiari family should be relieved they have finally left Australia.
"I think when any anguish from either side of a discussion, argument,
battle, call it whatever you want comes to an end, there has to be a certain sense of relief, and I hope the Bakhtiari family are feeling that." she said.
"In one sense, the question of whether Mrs Bakhtiari was born in Afghanistan or spent a lot time there is irrelevant, the point is they are Pakistani and can go back to Pakistan," she said.
But if the familly is from Afghanistan, the government may be guilty of refoulement.
"The timing of the family's departure was determined by the availability of the charter aircraft and transfer arrangements en route," she said. More likely is that refugee and asylum seeker advocates made it very difficult and undesirable to move the familly during normal working hours using standard airports and airlines.
Amanda Vanstone had the power to grant this family a temporary visa on compassionate grounds. She, and her Government, chose instead, at Christmas time when christians are supposed to act with compassion, to deport them in the middle of the night to Pakistan to face an uncertain future.

Its to be expected. Vanstone isn't much of a human anyway. So its no suprise that she has no compassion. It also shows that this goverenment is still incapable of admitting its made a mistake (anyone for WMD's/Kids overboard/etc,etc). I'm sure their mantra must be "Fake it till we make it law". I also see the hypocrasy of the bible bashing right wing polies that acuse people of lacking "christian" morals and then with the flick of a forked tonge behave amoral. The real issue here is that our government doesn't feel it owes the people of Australia any reason for it actions. This is all our own fault. We have entrusted to much power to people that if nothing more lack the proper qualifications to running Australia. I mean I wouldn't lets most of these polies have anything more than a middle management job let alone a CEO position. Thankfully because of the information age we can sometimes catch this lot when they're acting beyond the law. Now all we have to do is get some power back from the government and to the people of Australia so that we can make them accountable for they're actions. No matter what the government said. They have made quite an error of judgement in this matter. You would think that the time and money spent kicking these people out of our country could have been better spent on helping poorer countries and people improve what they have. Nope they have to get their segregation ideologies enforced. Lets just hope members of our government never need personal assistance in living a safe and healthy life from aanother country. We Australians are looking so two faced and there's another 4 years of this hypocrasy before we get another ideological change in the fabric of Australian politics. Looks like vanstone needs a heart transplant.
Anguish?

Asked whether the Government was relieved the family had left Australia, Senator Vanstone said: "I think when any anguish from either side of a discussion, argument, battle, call it whatever you want, comes to an end, there has to be a certain sense of relief, and I hope the Bakhtiari family are feeling that." I would really like to know what caused Vanstone anguish? Was that she could look like a heartless monster, probably not shes had that tad for quite a while. mabey it was something to do with realising she was wrong? Nah can't be that the libs are never wrong. She may have suffered nightmares about all those boat people coming/invading our puritan island? Nah! I just can't think of any reason that Vanstone could posably feel anguish about this case. Maybe shes just an insecure puppet. Maybe. One more thing notice that this stupid bitch refered to the Bakhtiari case as a "battle". Stupid blood thristy warmonger. Someone should send her to Afganistan. It'd be good for her. She'd learn new skills like bullet dodging maybe even lose a few pound eating in a refugee camp. Come to think of it has this mad cow even been out of the country for any reason other than a holiday?

So Australia has to continue to put the boot in, just to prove it was fine the first time. Nice to have our fears externalised this way, no need for us to do anything about them.

Personally Wat, I take the line of critical appreciation when faced this sort of stuff. This was a fairly poor effort. The better efforts tend to scorch, but do not over use words that some people find offensive. These have some shock impact for the uninitiated, but then become just a yawn unless really well done.
Really this with this one all one can do is look at the words as a time killer. I'm a rotten speller myself so won't comment on the spelling.
Only 1 Star, Tyler.
So to the insults.
Julian Burnside has come down on the side of 'fuck' ( http://www.abc.net.au/rn/arts/ling/stories/s1091402.htm ) and it does have a certain resonance.
'cocksucker' Ah here, Tyler D is just indulging in a Roman prejudice. The Romans had a thing about oral sex.
'dickhead' one of the good honest stable of swearwords that refer to the genitals.
See http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A753527 for 'shit' and a lot of other information - "Both a noun and a verb, meaning excrement and to excrete, and also used an adjective, 'shit' is a true Anglo Saxon word".
Cow turned out to be really interesting. From http://members.lycos.co.uk/mathunt/dissertation.html
The prefix 'cu' is one of the oldest word-sounds in recorded language. It is an expression quintessentially associated with femininity, and is the basis of 'cow' ('female animal'), 'queen' ('female monarch'), and, of course, 'cunt' ('female genital'). The word's second most significant influence is the Latin term 'cuneus', meaning 'wedge', from which comes 'cunnus' ('vagina'). The final 't' of 'cunt' can be traced back to Scandinavia, as in the Old Dutch 'kunte'.
'simpering' love that word but couldn't find anything on it without spending time.
I also hate Mandy but don't ever use her physical appearance to throw dirt. Obese people are up against it enough in terms of discrimination. I don't comment on Phillip Ruddock for the same reason. Most people who look like that are dead, and are already having a bad day.
Hopefully this helps Tyler, and we will see a more inspired and creative bunch of insults in your next post.

".....chose instead, at Christmas time when christians are supposed to act with compassion, to deport them in the middle of the night to Pakistan to face an uncertain future."
A lot of time and web space on this site is devoted to anti-Christian, anti-Jewish, anti-Western religion musings.
It's disingenous, at best, to claim that Ms. Vanstone should be chastised for not living up to YOUR interpretation of principles you choose to deride.
Also, it would culturally insensitive of Ms. Vanstone to burden the Bahktiyari family with the debt of Christian compassion when they obviously aren't Christians.
In this obviously multi-cultural situation -- it would have been better if Ms. Vandstone showed "Muslim Compassion", wouldn't it?

Christians celebrate the Nativity, or the birth of the alleged Jesus every December 25. Contrary to belief, there exists no evidence for a Jesus born on a December. Not a single shred of Biblical text declares this date, nor gives a hint of a winter season birth for a Jesus "the Christ." In fact, there occurs not a tad of evidence for the existence of a historical Jesus!
The Christmas that we celebrate today derived from pre-Christian Germanic, Roman, and Celtic people who celebrated the winter solstice. The use of holly, mistletoe, yule logs, wassail bowls, and decorating a tree derived from early pagan customs. Many European countries still call this celebration "Yule-tide" meaning "wheel time," the cycles of time.
NONE OF THESE DERIVE FROM CHRISTIAN ORIGIN.
The Persian Mithras cult spread during the 3rd and 4th centuries B.C.E. and predates Christian ceremonies and rites such as: baptism, communion wafer, and SUNday rest. On December 25, the sacrifice of a bull celebrated the Sol invictus (the invincible sun) and signaled the birth of a young sun god who sprang from a rock or a cave in the form of a newborn infant.
The Romans celebrated the Winter Solstice on December 25th as a renewing of the sun every year. Also the Romans celebrated the festival of the Saturnalia from December 17th to the 24th to honor Saturn, the god of grain and agriculture. The festival consisted of a period of goodwill, devoted to visiting friends and the giving of gifts.
At the beginning of the first century, Christianity emerged as a fledgling religion but not until the 4th CENTURY did Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus. The motive behind the introduction of this celebration aimed at subverting the practice of pagan rituals such as Mithra and Saturnalia.
POPE LIBERUS introduced the Nativity on December 25th 354 C.E.. By the 5th century, the event became so customary that it began to mark the beginning of the ceremonial year.
Today, we still celebrate with ornaments on trees, mistletoe and giving gifts, none of which has anything to do with Christian mythology. So instead of celebrating the Christian deception, why not opt for the earlier NON-GOD CELEBRATION of the WINTER SOLSTICE?
After all, it represents an ACTUAL EVENT as the planet earth orbits about the sun. The universe presents us with far more magnificent events than the superstitious religionists have ever dreamt up. Even more than the imagination of Dr. Seuss.

How the Christians stole the Easter holiday
Christians celebrate the annual festival commemorating the alleged resurrection of Jesus between March 22 and April 25. For centuries, Christian "scholars" have debated the date of Jesus' crucifixion (cruci-fiction?). Not even Christians know when he died. There occurs not a fragment of evidence about a Jesus crucified on Mt. Calvary or anywhere else (much less have evidence for his existence).
The Jews CELEBRATE "Passover" at around this time, from an Exodus story where GOD passes over the "chosen ones" ON HIS WAY TO KILL THE FIRSTBORN of Egypt (Exodus 11, 12).
However, people had celebrated Easter during the vernal equinox long before Judaism, Christianity and their superstitious myths. http://www.nobeliefs.com/facts.htm#anchor191933 ======================================
