Stun Guns and Semi-AUtomatics Used on Palm Island
by davey Friday December 03, 2004 at 03:27 AM

Stun Guns (Tasers) were used on Palm Island by police and there are claims that semi-automatic weapons were pointed at the heads of children. In a supreme irony given the cause of the riots one Aboriginal has been charged with "going armed to cause fear".

Mainstream press reports

http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,11539929%255E952,00.html

state that the Police Minister in Qld has confirmed that Stun Guns were used against at least three individuals on Palm Island during the recent uprising. Claims were also heard in the Townsville Court of Aboriginal children being forced to lie on the ground whilst Police pointed semi-automatic weapons at their heads.
Also in a supreme irony given the cause of the riot was the death/murder in police custody of an Aboriginal man, one of the Aboriginal resisters has been charged with " going armed to cause fear".!!!!! I saw footage of Palm Island on the 7:30 Report full of robo-cops armed to the death in ski masks who certainly could face a similar accusation!!!!
Another charge to arise from the riot is apparently "possession of a drug utensil". Perhaps htey burnt down the cop shop with a bong!!! Nine Aboriginals now face serious charges over the uprising whilst the system tries to find a way to explain how a man died within one and half hours of his arrest after "falling on some concrete steps". This is despite witnesses who saw the man being bashed by police.
The use of Tasers is interesting as they have only recently been approved in Victoria. After their successful trial and acceptance of their use on Aboriginals its only a matter of time before protesters get to experience the joys of Tasers first hand down South too.

Tasers...Do they have one purpose?

Tasers? I saw tasers in a positive light... before you call me crazy, I mean that when a member of the public is mentally ill, that perhaps instead of shooting to kill, the police would use a taser to apprehend the individual and get them HELP!? Without causing a fatal injury...
