Nick Berg, a civilian Jew had his head chopped off by Islamist terrorists. Did it cause outrage? Yes. Briefly.

But then, the world's media, with IndyMedia at the lead, returned to their original outrage about Abu Ghraib.

Why? Why is it, that a man's head getting cut off prompts arguments on this site like: "What was he doing there?" or "maybe it was a fake" or "here's proof we shouldn't be in Iraq" or my personal favourite "this is nothing compared to what happens in Guantanemo Bay".

Here's why: When Americans give a few soldiers a wedgie or a noogie and photograph it, we are OUTRAGED! This is despite the fact they were called criminals, will be tried and punished under US law. But... When Islamist murderers do what they are best at with a knife, we aren't surprised in the slightest and the silence is deafening.

We demand US heads roll over what happened. When Islamists cause heads to roll literally, it's just business as usual isn't it? And no one seems to care...

We are facing a dangerous enemy and are too busy bitching about how to make everyone happy.

If someone says they are going to kill you, never give them the benefit of the doubt!

This beheading is a psy-ops stunt i'd say. Timing immaculate. Look for the imformation that questions the event posed to us.

One atrocity does not justify another. Criticising one atrocity does not mean approval for another.

The USA justified invading Iraq by claiming they would be removing a dictator and introducing democracy. They entered this conflict claiming the moral high ground but have now descended to the same level as their opponents. The documents and photographs are clear evidence that the USA has used torture and breached international law. A fundamental part of democracy is rule of law. According to the Red Cross many of those in Abu Ghraib Prison were detained in error and had not been charged.

The Howard Government is part of the Coalition and must share some of the responsibility. Despite the hype about WMD it appears that Iraq posed no threat to Australia. The Bush Govt has failed to prove any links between the secular Iraqi Govt and Muslim Osoma Bin Laden and his nasties. The Iraqi's were not threating to kill us, well not until we got dragged into the current mess in Iraq! One atrocity does not justify another. Criticising one atrocity does not mean approval for another.

Nick Berg was on his way out of Iraq. He had been released from the prison WHERE HE HAD BEEN HELD FOR 13 days by Iraqi police FOR REASONS HE SAID HE DID NOT KNOW. He had made his way from Mosul to his Baghdad hotel. He was finished with being an independent civilian contractor and was coming home to West Chester.

That was April 9. A month later, Berg's parents, Michael and Suzanne, still haven't heard from him. They've gone from concerned to frantic.

"Our hopes are that he's still in hiding or en route and traveling in a very slow manner," Michael Berg said.

[Nick & Micheal Berg] spoke on March 24, and Nick Berg told his parents he was coming home on March 30. Then the communications stopped, and he wasn't on the plane on March 30.

When FBI agents arrived at the Berg's West Chester home on March 31, they were relieved to know their son was alive, BUT IN JAIL. The agents questioned them about various details that only they and their son would know about.

Jerri Williams, spokeswoman for the Philadelphia FBI office, said the agency was "asked to interview the parents regarding Mr. Berg's purpose in Iraq."

On April 5, the Bergs filed suit in federal court in Philadelphia, contending that their son was being held illegally by the U.S. military in Iraq.

Nick Berg's Parents Say US Abandoned Him

As West Chester, Pa. mourns the brutal death of native son Nick Berg at the hands of Iraqi terrorists, his PARENTS WANT TO KNOW WHY HE WAS DETAINED by the US military there and why he wasn't escorted out of Iraq after he was released.

According to US officials, the American civilian who was beheaded in a grisly video posted on an al-Qaida-linked web site had been warned to leave Iraq but refused.

The masked men who butchered him claimed they were angered by coalition abuses of Iraqi prisoners.

One US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Berg was in Iraq "of his own accord" and had been advised to leave Iraq but refused.

** Meanwhile, a US spokesman says Berg was never under US custody despite claims from his family. **

Purported Al Qaeda Leader Beheads U.S. Civilian in Iraq

05/11/04 -- DUBAI (Reuters) - Al Qaeda's leader in Iraq beheaded an American civilian and vowed more killings in revenge for the abuse of Iraqi prisoners, an Islamist WEB SITE SAID Tuesday.

A poor quality videotape on the site showed a man dressed in orange overalls sitting bound on a white plastic chair in a bare room, then on the floor with five masked men behind him.

"My name is Nick Berg, my father's name is Michael... I have a brother and sister, David and Sarah," said the bound man, adding he was from Philadelphia.

After one of the masked men read out a statement, they pushed Berg to the floor and shouted "God is greatest" above his screams as one of them sawed his head off with a large knife then held it aloft for the camera.

The Web site said Abu Musab al-ZARQAWI a top ally of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, was the man who cut off Berg's head. The statement read out before the killing was signed off with Zarqawi's name and dated May 11.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A Jordanian extremist suspected of bloody suicide attacks in Iraq was killed some time ago in U.S. bombing and a letter outlining plans for fomenting sectarian war is a forgery, a statement allegedly from an insurgent group west of the capital said.

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in the Sulaimaniyah mountains of northern Iraq “during the American bombing there,” according to a statement circulated in Fallujah this week and signed by the “Leadership of the Allahu Akbar Mujahedeen.”

There was no way to verify the authenticity of the statement, one of many leaflets put out by a variety of groups taking part in the anti-U.S. resistance.

The statement did not say when al-Zarqawi was supposedly killed, but U.S. jets bombed strongholds of the extremist Ansar al-Islam in the north last April as Saddam Hussein’s regime was collapsing.

It said al-Zarqawi was unable to escape the bombing because of his artificial leg.

Before the Iraq conflict began last March, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said al-Zarqawi received hospital treatment in Baghdad after fleeing Afghanistan. U.S. intelligence sources said he apparently was fitted with an artificial leg.

The statement said the “fabricated al-Zarqawi memo” has been used by the U.S.-run coalition “to back up their theory of a civil war” in Iraq.

February 26, 2004 A Purloined Letter The Zarqawi Gambit By GREG WEIHER We've got the rebels in Iraq on the run! So says a letter intercepted by U. S. Forces in Iraq in January (Dexter Filkins, New York Times, 02/08/04). It was taken during a raid on a "known" Al Qaeda safe house in Baghdad. U. S. authorities claim that the courier identified the author as Abu Musab al Zarqawi, a man they contend has ties to Al Qaeda and Ansar al Islam. According to these U.S. authorities, the letter was intended for Al Qaeda, and proposes a joint attempt to provoke civil war between Iraq's Sunni and Shia. The letter confirms all of the fondest theories of the Bush administration about the war in Iraq. First, it apparently dispels all doubt about an Al Qaeda-Iraq connection by virtue of its authorship (Zarqawi, Qaeda associate) and its destination (Qaeda's "inner circle"). Second, the letter establishes that the insurgency is being carried out by alien jihadis who are planning dastardly deeds. These are not the peace-loving Iraqis who want nothing more than to benefit from American largesse and build the democracy that the Bush administration has planned for them. These are foreigners who want to attack the Shia so that they will counterattack and "awaken the sleepy Sunnis." Clearly, they do not seek Iraqi welfare, but only unending jihad. Third, the letter shows that stalwart American efforts are succeeding in winning the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people. "The memo says extremists are failing to enlist support inside the country, and have been unable to scare the Americans into leaving." Nation-building proceeds apace. The author says that if civil war does not come by June 30, the mystic date when the planets align and the Bush administration must restore Iraqi sovereignty or turn into a pumpkin, then all hope is lost. "We can pack up and leave and look for another land, just like what has happened in so many lands of jihad. Our enemy is growing stronger day after day, and its intelligence information increases. The only thing it is looking "more and more like" is people looking for any Western source, be it the US, Israel, Australia, Britain to criticise. Why? Because when it comes to cowardly and deliberate murder of civilians and sheer animal behaviour, we expect nothing less from the Arab world. Merely a week before Nick Berg lost his life, Arabs were waving Israeli bodyparts in the air like trophies. A day before that, they were shooting at the funeral of a pregnant woman who they had shot a week earlier with her four babies.

Why on EARTH would the CIA need to make the Arabs look like ANIMALS, when they do such a good job of it themselves? Think about it.

In any case, when Islamist groups accept responsibility, why will you STILL not believe them?

Case 1:

On May 22, 2003, in Baghdad, a nine-year-old girl was abducted from the stairs of the building where she lived, taken to an abandoned building nearby, and raped. A family friend who saw the young girl immediately following the rape informed international human rights groups.

The report quotes the family friend, "She was sitting on the stairs, here, at 4:00 p.m. It seems to me that probably they hit her on the back of the head with a gun and then took her to [a neighboring] building. She came back fifteen minutes later, bleeding [from the vaginal area]. [She was still bleeding two days later, so] we took her to the hospital."

A human rights group saw a copy of the medical report by the U.S. military doctor who treated the baby girl six days later. The report documented bruising in the vaginal area, a posterior vaginal tear, and a broken hymen. Lieutenant Monica Casmaer, a physician’s assistant attached to a U.S. military unit, examined the nine year old girl. with the pediatrician. She described the injuries as fairly severe, especially given the time that had elapsed before she was examined.

Case 2:

A young Iraqi woman told an international human rights group that armed men abducted her from her home on a Thursday night in early May, 2003. She said her captors gang-raped her at an unknown location before dropping her in an unfamiliar district of Baghdad the following morning.

The report of the woman says, "I was here, on the stairs by the door when a car pulled up with four men. My daughter was on the upper floor, I was on the ground floor. The four men got out of the car and approached me. They were armed, they put guns to my head and said come with us. I screamed and said take the pistol away. My daughter started to scream. They pulled my hair and pushed me in the car and they started shooting at the house, more than fifty shots. My daughter was screaming the whole time. Many neighbors started to shoot too, but they couldn’t catch them".

The victim added "In the car they made me put my head down between my legs, and put a pistol to my head. They said that if I moved my head I’d be killed, so I don’t know where they took me…. [Then they took me into a building where] they were hitting me on the head and arms, and I still can’t stretch out because my whole body hurts. They used hot water on my head, my eyes still burn from that and my arms. They raped me, in many, many ways. They kept me until the next day, I begged them, I said I have a young child, I said she might die if I leave her alone. And so then they left me alone. When I came home my appearance was so bad, my hair was a mess, my mouth was bloody and my legs too. They burned my legs with cigarettes. They bit me, on my shoulders and arms. All of them raped me, there were five or six more than the four who kidnapped me, there were ten of them total and I was raped by all ten of them.
