Japanese kidnapped in Iraq a hoax?

Waiting to see.
On Thursday, 3 Japanese - Noriaki Imai, 18, Soichiro Koriyama, 32, and Nahoko Takato, 34 - were allegedly kidnapped in Iraq by insurgents.
Video footage broadcast by Al-Jazeera showed the Japanese with a threat that the three would be burnt alive unless Japan withdrew its non-combatant troops from Iraq by 9 p.m. Tokyo time Sunday. On Friday, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi stood firm and said Japan wouldn't withdraw its troops in the face of terrorist threats.
The deadline has passed and the three Japanese are reportedly still alive. In addition, there are now a scatter of reports that the three will be released.
If they are released, it has been a bizarre counter-productive waste of time on the part of kidnappers:
(i) They kidnap and threat.
(ii) The Japanese refuse to budge.
(iii) They release the the three, further emboldening the position of the Japanese government in keeping the troops there.
Clearly, if Japan refuses to withdraw troops, the kidnappers should execute the three, release a video- tape of the gruesome killing (Daniel Pearl style), and sit back and watch the Japanese population scream for the PM's resignation.
That would be the logical strategy. Unless, the kidnapping is a hoax.
Each of the three Japanese are fervent anti-war protestors who are actively against Japanese troop deployment in Iraq. Their interests reflect exactly those of the alleged kidnappers.
Hopefully the three are released and return safe and sound to their familes and friends.
But let's wait and see if my suspicions are unfounded.

Unfortunately, I think that these are acts of desperation and frustration on the part of the Iraqi population. Same as the suicide bombings. They probably dont even know what they will do in the end.
Either way the fate of the three Japanese will be better (quicker) than those in Camp X-ray. I hope the Japanese government sees sense and gets the fuck out of there.

The Japanese people join the Americans and the Israelis for finally seeing what animals these people are, and decides how they need to be dealt with.

I disagree with you on two points:
1) These murdering bastards are NOT representative of the Iraqi people any more than other Militant Islamics like Hamas or Al-Queda are representative of all Muslims.
2) Desperation does not justify barbarity. There is a reason why desperate Aboriginals, Tibetans, etc. don't murder innocents or children. The difference is Militant Islam.

Who declared war on who anyway? I dont see any Iraqis in Japan or the US or anywhere else for that matter.
First the US installs its CIA agent as president of Iraq, then uses them to fight Iran, then attacks them because saddam thought the US would support him invading Kuaite, then they starve and bomb the fuck out of Iraq for 12 years (killing MILLIONS of Iraqis) and finally invade and occupy Iraq. And YOU THINK THEY DECLARED WAR?
At least the Iraqis give the Japanese a chance to live. The US just drops random bombs on people it cant even see die.

Look at the violence rates on any Aboriginal community.

You can't seriously compare Aboriginal violence with Militant Islamic violence.
Or would you have us believe that throwing bricks at coppers is the same as strapping explosives to a thirteen year old boy and sending him off to KILL innocent civilians.
For that matter, there is very little legitimate violence/uprising/resistance/protest anywhere in the world that is as bloody or murderous as the Militant Islamic flavour of the same.
You also shouldn't confuse protest for deliberate attempts to destroy you. You cannot appease people whose sole agenda is your destruction - they will never be happy until you are gone. If someone says they are going to kill you, why give them the benefit of the doubt?

People in Redfern are not currently being blown up or shot. Given how they have reacted to the level of oppression they face now, I suspect that were they to be bombed and blockaded they probably would take hostages or blow themselves up.
Also, you just have to look at the level of domestic violence that goes on in remote communities and you will see what years of opression does to people.
Hopefuly the occupiers will fuck off out of Iraq and the prisoners of war will be freed (unlike the USs POWs who are still being tortured in Guantanamo).
Dont foget that most of the POWs have been released once their captors found out they were not on the US side (eg the christian missionaries and the laundry worker who were released). If what that email says is true the Japanese prisoners stand a good chance.
Solidarity to the Japanese prisoners and the Iraqis.
